Viewing Your Time as a Valuable Comodity

"Sometimes the keys to successful time management have nothing to do with planners, schedules or organization technique. Instead, changes of viewpoint can make all the difference in the world. These epiphanies can transform one’s outlook regarding time and how it is handled. One of the most important recognitions is understanding time, not as a menacing clock ticking away, but as a valuable commodity.

How do you treat your valuables? You aren’t reckless with them. You treat them well. You covet special items and afford them the very best possible treatment. When you begin to understand the value of time as a commodity of sorts, managing its use can become almost second nature.
Look at it this way. Time is valuable. It is the window of opportunity for everything we accomplish. To make it even more valuable, it is a prerequisite to our very being. When we “run out of time,” in the largest sense, we die completely. Recognizing that time is truly worth more than anything and that it is the basis for everything repositions our thinking.

Suddenly, we can begin to approach our decisions with time truly in mind. Instead of merely focusing on deadlines and must-do’s, we begin to think in terms of ways we can truly maximize what we have. We may also develop a strong reluctance to engage in practices that fail to contribute to our larger goals. "One is less apt to “waste time” when they think of it in terms of its nearly infinite value as opposed to when it is perceived as little more than an annoying timer. One begins to relish time and to milk it dry of all opportunity. That is an amazingly empowering step to take. The lists begin to look less oppressive, the chores seem to become opportunities for celebration and progress.

How do you feel about time? Is it merely a hurdle for you to jump or can you begin to appreciate it as the foundation of all things--including life. When you are able to truly comprehend the value of the commodity called “time,” you will naturally begin to approach your daily tasks differently. You will seek to complete them, but you may also find yourself enjoying them even more in an effort to imbue each precious moment with greater significance.

Just as one would never play a game of pick up baseball with a Faberge egg, no one who truly senses the boundless value of time would ever squander precious minutes on meaningless distractions. Instead, he or she will naturally focus on maximizing the value of time with respect to individual goals.
A solid organizing system and a good plan may be critical to the ability of some to better manage their time. However, a simple shift of perspective may have a far more profound impact on outcomes."

Distraction Costs You $$$$

There is an old saying, harsh but often true. “Most people work just hard enough so they won’t get fired and most bosses pay you just enough so you won’t quit”. Well, what happens when you are the boss (CEO), the sales rep, the accountant, the secretary, and janitor and in reality the total work force? When you run a small business it doesn’t matter if it is from home or a brick and mortar business, normally you wear many hats throughout the day. It reminds me of the clown spinning plates on a pole, running back and forth to keep them going. Exhausting just thinking of it, isn’t it?

I don’t believe there is a way to remove all the stresses of being in business for yourself and more than there is from working for someone else. But there is a lot you can do for yourself to minimize the stress. The key is to work smarter, not harder. With that you will develop a style to get more quality work done in less time.

I’ve found that distractions are one of my biggest problems to deal with. How to limit them is key. Here are some simple steps to take:
Don’t be a slave to your email. Some people check their email every 5 to 10 minutes which takes you off task.

The same can be said for the telephone. Most often when you’re on a project your best use of time is to focus on the project and later pick up your messages; answering them in order of importance. Constant interruption of phone or email just costs you time and money. YOU do have control over this but you may need to work at a mind shift to make it a comfortable working style.

This also stands for people interrupting you. Probably one of the most frustrating things is when working from home everyone things you are always available to chat, do some task, volunteer for everything (after all you don’t have a ‘real’ job).
Works with a solid business plan and use a good quality time and activity management system to plan each day. It is best to plan tomorrow’s projects, phone calls, email; bill paying or whatever else will need doing the night before. That way you wake up ready to go to work. Several types of sytems are popuarl. Some business people prefer using their computer calendar, Cell Phone calendar, Microsoft Systems and the carry with you 3 ring binder systems. I prefer the 3 ring binder with a zipper by
Franklin Covey or Day Timer. Both of these and others can be adapted for your specific needs.

Until you treat your business as a real business and give it and yourself the respect you deserve, these distractions will damage your ability to be profitable and succeed in this completive world of home businesses.

I’ve a house rule that works almost all the time. When the DOOR is SHUT, do not and I mean, do not disturb me unless the house is on fire. If I leave the door slightly ajar, enter quietly and if I wave you away, then just back out and leave me alone. This has been a challenge for the family to learn but no one would think of going to their spouse’s place of employment and just walking in and interrupting whatever was going on.

Your business will have a very good chance of success when you treat it as a successful business.

Make Your Home Office Design Work for YOU

One of the many benefits of working from home is that you control your work space. Some needs are universal and many other are personal. Let’s look for to those issues that just make good business sense.

Organization:

Everything Needs its Own Home: Keep your office clean and well organized. Everything has a place and things are located into groups. Depending on how big a space you will define as your office (and make sure that space is OFFICE only for tax purposes) will somewhat dictate how you set up.

I like a good file cabinet with several drawers, hanging folders labeled clearly and according to groups that make sense. Whenever I find I’ve not put things where they belong I can hear the ‘clink clink’ of the cash machine putting money down a rat hole while I struggle to find the needed file or note or whatever. That is lost time which means lost money.

We also put up a shelf with small bins labeled for example: scissors, labels, tape, possums, pens and markers, etc. Everything in easy reach.

FILE don’t Pile: Try as best to handle all paper work ONE time or the piles can tend to grow and breed in the night to snarling distracting messes in the morning. This leads to more stress and less productivity.

Make the System Fit Your Style: I like lots of color, some folks don’t. Do you do best with things alphabetically or by categories? Decide what you want within easy reach and what can be up on a bookshelf or wall shelf, file cabinet, etc. I wouldn’t give up my rolling chair for a pony! Everything I need is normally within reach which minimizes my getting up and down. Phone system, computor and most common files use with excellent lighting are a must for me.

Organization is an ongoing organic process: As your business develops so will your understanding of your needs. Functionality will be your ongoing priority. So don’t get stuck in yesterdays needs. Be flexible to grow and change what you need.

Chart Your Office: Think of your style, needs, equipment needed, paper management, lighting. Draw it out and then go purchase what you need to set it up. You can set up an office with small bins, stacking bins, file cabinets, worktables, book shelves, etc. without a huge expense. This is especially true when you consider the loss of time and money when you are not organized.

If you feel you at all need help in this area I believe some of the best spent money I ever did was to hire an office organizer who got me on the right track. Even now and then I bring her back in when I’ve fallen of the wagon. She has been and still is when needed, worth her weight in GOLD!

Office Motto: Everything has a place and everything GOES to its place. Handle things once whenever possible.

The ABC's of MLM

The world she is a changing .... are you?

Work at Home Business opportunities have been desired and still are desired by many forward thinking people. But some of the systems used to get financial independence and freedom of time for family and fun just plain don’t work!

What almost all MLM companies offer are outdated with the technical age we live in! The old (and in many MLM’s the only) system was to have a hopefully decent product, get folks all jazzed up and then teach them the fine art of ‘duplication’. Follow me (or better yet your up line); Do as I do and you will be a success. So:

  • Make a list of all your friends and family (not to concern yourself with the reality that shortly they will duck and cringe when they see you coming.
  • Pick up the telephone; yes that 900# telephone and call everyone you know to ask to come show them the newest, the best, the most awesome deal that they can’t live without. Or better yet, talk them into coming to a ‘meeting’. ugh!
  • Be prepared to stock a lot of product and carry inventory so you can teach them to do the same thing, and so on and so on and so on. That will help to increase your (but primarily your up lines) income
  • Yes, the caveat; they will be independently wealthy in only 6 months or so.
Well the chosen few who had really good connections to begin with or those that worked so hard that they often sacrificed their families and even their values to climb over others to the top showed the big bucks. It saddens me when I think back of the good people who had their families and marriages fall apart as the ‘dream was chased’. Duplication just does NOT work if that is all that you offer someone.

So what is needed? It’s easy to complain and moan about the old days but what about now. NOW we are in a computer revolution with the amount of sales done through the internet is sky rocketing with no end in sight. No matter if you age in your 20’s or 30’s OR 50’s or 60’s, YOU can learn to use the computer. Some of us just need to work longer and get more help. But the way I figure it when I find myself struggling with some technical problem, well, if I do nothing then I’ll have nothing. I just line up help with the team for computer training and assistance as needed. And that is one of the first rules to success:
Work with a team and company that have a proven track record and a willingness to help you achieve your goals, not just increase theirs.

Develop a business plan and stick to it. It is far too easy to become a training junkie (one who spends all their time in on-line training sessions) Find a mentor or two in the company that you respect and are willing to help you. Listen to their advice and keep with the plan. Learn one thing and learn it well, then go onto the next. Before you know it you will have created an profitable internet business.

Use portal marketing as a valuable asset to its particular market. Each portal is designed to put your traffic into the main stream of Internet culture. It builds a large and diverse portfolio of services and sites, thus your sphere of influence grows exponentially within the expanding market of the internet.

Learn about vanity responders (auto responders). It is the state of the art technology. When someone responds to one of your traffic portals by email, it goes to your auto responder and in on its way again with answers to whatever is being sought. You will have prepared by the company or personal replies and how often they should go out. With a click of a key, control is in your hands.

Use various other high powered submission tools, submitting to 2 billion ads at a time AND never do any spamming. Use STRONG spamming controls. The system should be self monitoring.

Learn the secret of working with Premium Leads, those people who are asking YOU to contact them for more information. Developing Premium Leads is done through contact management.

And whenever possible work with DELEGATION, not duplication. Not everyone is good at each skill needed to create a successful business.
Develope a relationship with a mentor that will assist you in choosing a business that has a good chance of leading you to success. We are all different people. We’ve different interests, skills, time commitments, health issues, etc. So it is wise to look into these when working with your Business Development Mentor.

Benifits of Working from Home

Today not just entrepreneurs but average folks like you and I are rediscovering the benefits of working from home. Technological innovations are available and programs are in place to help the average person succeed. Working from home is Eco Friendly and Profitable both in Time Saved and Money Earned. Are you ready to escape the Rat Race?

Here are a few good reasons for a
home based business:

TAX Benefits – that is a reason on everyone’s list. Not only do I save time and gas from commuting but there are so many things that are now tax deductible because I work from home. I’ve turned a portion of our home dedicated to business only areas. In our case we write off 1/3 of utilities, insurance costs, house payments, and expenses for phone, computers and so much more. Maintenance and repairs are deducible, depreciation, property taxes and of course insurance costs. Plus much much more! Who wants to pay more taxes? Saving taxes is Making $$$.

Personal Financial Freedom – having time and freedom can be so rewarding. When my husband was in construction if he was working we had NO time and when he was between jobs we had Time but NO money. There was something wrong with that picture. Now by our working from home, we have time together, because we chose a business that can be worked through the internet or belly to belly, we can work and play anywhere. Our income is in our hands. Now there is a down side … do you have what it takes to be consistent in your business and willing to study to keep up with the trends? There is a lot of support to help you …. But YOU are in the driver’s seat.

Reducing Stress – your working from home will help to fee up time so you will find it easier to juggle the demands of home, family and your private life. You will set your goals and deadlines. No more office politics, missing family functions that you set as a priority. YOU are your boss and your best employee.

The benefits of Home Based Business are just starting to rise to a peak that will set the pace for personal freedom and maximizing time and income. Are you ready to join this growing movement? Think Goes Green. Start
